Practicing good oral hygiene and maintaining healthy habits is the key to maintaining a glowing and bright smile. When you neglect to take care of your smile, you are inadvertently attracting a host of dental issues towards you. For this reason, it is has become extremely pertinent for people to focus on practicing proper dental hygiene. Additionally, it is important for them to be aware of the symptoms of the following dental issues so they can visit their dentist in time:
Cavities
Cavities can lead to tooth decay. Therefore, it is critical
for people to find a dentist in their area to get treatment for it.
The dentist will clean the cavity and fill it up. If their tooth is too
far-gone, the dentist may need to perform a root canal procedure or a tooth
removal procedure. Here is what people should do to avoid cavities:
· Brush their teeth two times a day
· Floss one time a day
· Use a fluoride toothpaste and mouthwash
· Avoid eating sugary food and drinking carbonated drinks
Chipped Tooth
People with a habit of chewing on ice or other hard foods
may suffer from a chipped tooth. Sometimes, opening a bottle with your teeth
can lead to a chipped tooth as well. It is vital for people to avoid crunching
ice or nuts with their teeth. If you do suffer from a chipped tooth, a dentist
can easily fix it by placing a crown or veneer to cover it up.
Teeth Grinding
People who grind their teeth in their sleep or when stressed
will need to visit their dentist. The constant headaches, toothaches, jaw pain,
and earaches are due to people’s habit of grinding their teeth. Failure to seek
treatment can make the surface of one’s teeth worn out and cause discoloration.
The dentist will create a mouthguard tailored to
your mouth to protect your teeth when you sleep. If stress is causing you to
grind your teeth, you need to find ways to calm down your nerves through
mediation, exercise, or counseling.
Gingivitis
Gingivitis is an indication of impending gum disease. Gum
disease occurs when the tissues surrounding your teeth become infected. People
suffering from gingivitis will notice the following symptoms:
· Inflamed gums
· Bleeding gums
· Swollen gums
· Bad breath
· Change in bite
· Loose permanent tooth
· Bone and gums recede
· Bad breath
· Bad taste in mouth
Gum disease is painless and that is why, you should visit
your dentist so they can find and treat the problem before it becomes
worse. People who develop gum disease do not practice good oral hygiene.
Periodontal Disease
An advanced version of gum disease is known as periodontal
disease. This type of disease can cause adults to lose their teeth. The
infection, if left untreated, can spread to others areas of the mouth and cause
more harm to your smile. Symptoms of periodontal disease include:
· Change in bite
· Loose permanent tooth
· Bone and gums recede
· Bad breath
· Bad taste in mouth

I think you're right about how people should be aware of gingivitis before it can turn into periodontal disease. You made a good point about how gum disease can be painless in the early stages. I didn't realize that my gums were inflamed until I scheduled a check up with a dentist. That's why it's important to have regular check ups to know if you need to do something differently to have healthier gums.
